New 2005 Nickel Designs
           2004 marked the first time in 66 years that the reverse of the U.S. nickel has changed. In 2005, both the obverse and reverse of the nickel will feature new designs. The obverse, designed by Joseph Fitzgerald, will still contain a likeness of Jefferson, but the new design will only show a portion of the bust which will be offset to the left of the nickel. The motto "Liberty" and the date will be repositioned. The second reverse issue of 2005, designed by Joseph Fitzgerald, will feature the ocean view enjoyed by Lewis and Clark when they reached the Pacific shore along with an entry from Captain William Clark's journal, inscribed on the coin, `Ocean in view! O! The joy!`
