This is the 4th design and final design for 2009
depicting Lincoln's "Presidency" in Washington, D.C.
- Both coins are Gem Brilliant Uncirculated.
- One penny is from the Denver (D) Mint and one is from the Philadelphia (P) Mint.
- The "Presidency" design on the reverse of the coin depicts the half-finished dome of the U.S. Capitol.
This design recalls the time when our Nation was torn apart by civil war and Lincoln guided this country through
its most grave crisis.
- This is the fourth and last redesigned one-cent coin (penny) for 2009!
- The Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005 (Public Law 109-145) authorized the United States Mint to issue four different pennies throughout 2009. The four new reverse designs will be issued to celebrate the 200th anniversary of President Lincoln's birth and the 100th anniversary of the production of the Lincoln penny.
- The obverse (heads) of the 2009 Lincoln penny bears sculptor Victor David Brenner's likeness of
President Lincoln with Brenner's initials VDB, as it was introduced in 1909. (see far right photo)
